It was a magical night under the moonlight Saturday. Mahalo nui - TopicsExpress

It was a magical night under the moonlight Saturday. Mahalo nui loa to all who helped with the setup and cleanup...my brother Jim and Jeff Gere and Dominique Meyer who came from Honolulu, as well as Kawika Eyre, Dan OConnor, Robert Piper, and Kristine Kubat.... Its cool just sitting around a big fire of course, but what makes these events so special has always been the musicians. The videographer here (yours truly) surely isnt the best and has very limited equipment (iphone 4), I missed a lot of incredible moments. . . the opening set with Larry Broido on guitar with Loren Brownlea on violin (as I was trying to get the fire started during that whole set) and especially little Sadies tap dance.... I missed as well the crescendo toward the end with Pete Irving playing that resonator and singing, backed up by Larry Broido, Bub Pratt, Diana Webb and Loren Brownlea. That was clearly one of the high points in all these pit fire events. Nevertheless, I think I got a few highlights that shows just why these events have been so special ... and that is the fine musicianship and truly extraordinary voices. In this video we have Bub Pratt, in a brilliant demonstration of his guitar playing and vocal prowess, and Diana Webb on bass. Then the unexpected surprise of the evening was the troubadour Pete Irving from Seattle who came with Bub and Diana. All you folks in Honolulu should watch out for this guy...he is coming your way and playing the Station Bar and Anna OBriens later this month. I tell you he is not to be missed. He plays this heavy steel guitar (the resonator), writes great songs and, as you can hear here, has a most incredible voice. Jeff Gere then entertained us with one of his scary stories. A highlight always of the pit-fire, Eva Gonzalez-Ruskiewicz then came on to sing some of her great tunes. I think everyone can see why I think she is so wonderful. She writes such great songs, plays superbly on the keyboard and has a most beautiful voice. She also has a certain charisma, so evident here, as perhaps in the highlight of this video, when she accommodates the four young girls (Sadie, Azure, Hannah and Sky) in their accompaniment. This video closes with a clip from the set featuring Rob Decker on guitar and vocals, backed by Larry Broido and Bub Pratt. It was truly a magical night under the moonlight. Special thanks to Bub for handing the sound. Wow! Toward the end, during the crescendo everyone I looked at kept shaking their heads in disbelief it was so good. https://vimeo/116100405
