It was a moment unexpected, a surprising landscape that left backs - TopicsExpress

It was a moment unexpected, a surprising landscape that left backs turned away from the suns climb skyward, and all eyes on the majestic tapestry of avian diversity spread across the lake. In a life of travel, I cannot remember a more astonishing sight than this collection of birds that had come down to take advantage of the low tides buffet. In surrounding me was a smorgasbord of shorebirds; Ibis, Heron Eagle, Sandpiper, Plover, Gulls, Terns, Anhinga and more, all serenely taking in days first light, momentarily quiet and in perfect harmony. Although not all seen in this shot, within eyes view of this vantage were possibly the greatest collection of mixed species shorebirds I have witnessed. Included were: Both Glossy and White Ibis, Tricolored Heron, Snowy Egret, Little Blue Heron, Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, Green Heron, Roseate Spoonbill, Wood Stork, Bald Eagle, Caspian Tern, Forsters Tern, Least Tern, an assortment of Gulls, Black Skimmer, Black-bellied Plover, Semipalmated Plover, Spotted Sandpiper, Willet, Solitary Sandpiper, Western and Semipalmated Sandpiper, Clapper Rail, King Rail, Wood Stork, Sharp-tailed, Seaside and Swamp Sparrow and more that I have yet to ID.
