It was a privilege to give out the awards to over 150 children in Woodkirk Academy’s Merit Assembly this week. The children from years 7-12 have worked incredibly hard and have achieved amazing results. There was a real buzz in the school and as the Head Teacher Jonathan White said in his speech- just like a triangle; there are three elements that make a school a success, the students, teachers and the parents. Well done to all for a memorable day and for your outstanding achievements. I would also like to praise the amazing work that the Salvation Army does in Morley; following their beautiful and moving performance at the Mayor’s Carol Service, I visited their Jobs Club that they hold in Morley every Thursday morning. They really do support job seekers and are on hand with advice and they also have laptops available for people to use to search for jobs. On top of this they showed me all the Christmas presents they have collected for the children of those families in our area who are struggling. The work that they do, coupled with the fantastic work of the schools that I visited really demonstrates the true value of support and giving at Christmas.
