It was a sweet surprise today, when my friendship request on FB was accepted by my icon, Shri Shyamal Banerjee ( S K Bandyopadhyay) retired GM of our bank after a long waiting period of not less than 2 years. 12 years ago, while he headed Mumbai Fort branch, as DGM he was my inspiration in communication, leadership, balanced decision and above all taking responsibility and accountability. I remember the day he said to me To err is natural, but the implication of such mistakes going not- understood is a matter of concern. If you do not understand the implications of your mistakes, it will certainly lead you to worst consequences. There were instances, he gave clear instructions on business decisions where he directed his subordinates to get his signature without fail, so that he would be solely responsible for such decisions and to give his subordinates a cocooned atmosphere. Leaders inspire, set examples and turn invisible characters in others lives - He is one among them. I hope he will be active on FB on banking related things to be our guiding beacon.
