It was after all, 1988. Things were.....different. It was the middle of the night, with a full moon and a full jug of Dickle (the kind with the handle), and we was riding in The Luv Machine, somewhere near Poison Springs, when I got to trying to explain to her how they vibrate, sometimes in just the right spots....and that sound, oh....that sound. Fore I knew it, she said,yea...lets go for a ride.....NOW. It was only a 45 Flathead, side-valve....but Doc put it together with the best parts available for them flatties. Plus I had that knucklehead back wheel star-hub with that big sprocket....along with the low geared servi-car tranny WITH the reverse gear.Not to mention that hopped-up Linkert carb with no choke (made it tricky to start). 90 mph was tops with two riders...but it got it all at once. First thing to do was alert mama...so she wouldnt shoot. Pushed it out of her washhouse where I built it and it slept when it and me was tired. Kicked her thru a few times, cleaned out the linkert, and she busted off...leaving no-one in the vicinity asleep. Me and her, the one with the beautiful head of hair, holding my drink, holding on for all she had.....and firmly a-hold of my heart. I may not have been the only man in her lifetime....but Im the ONLY one that took her for a midnight Harley-Davidson ride on a rigid framed, suicide clutched, tank shifted mochine that was about to appear in Easyrider Magazine. Shes never rode with me much at all on any of my scooters. I had bad karma about it....she was too precious, and was too hard to convince to come my way to take any chances on some tequillaed-up crash that might injure her. She said adventure. She said fun. I covered all of it in 26 years since that full-moon night. She no longer has that hair....or any hair. But she still takes my breath away. Please contnue to pray for her, as the rest of us as well.
