It was amazing to leave the studio tonight - finally after months. My trusty engineer Sean Swinney who records so many artists and in fact many violinists here in NYC, did yet another marathon with me in his studio...He really is a wonderful guy to work with and we have worked on many of my recordings over the last 8 years since I have been here in NYC. After doing the final equalization and mastering late tonight, I said goodbye and told him that it felt extra special this time to hold this particular master CD in my hand. As I was heading for the door, he sprang a compliment on me that I had not heard him tell me before. He told me that you are the most professional person I have worked with, you are a great musician and you know everything about recording like no other artist I have seen. It is always a pleasure to work with you. It dawned on me that I was cooped up in a small control room for days at a time with Sean putting together my new project that I was extremely particular and picky about... and if anybody knows about my personality, patience, character and ego, - it would be someone like him. While I regret that some people online will measure someones character from online posting, as I walked back to my apartment in the middle of the night here in NYC, I reflected on this latest monumental effort of working around the clock for literally months. I had to ask myself this question: What exactly do I do this for, myself? I dont pay myself to work 18 hours days and Sean of all people knows that I dont do this for some ego gratification. The reason why I do this is for the benefit of young musicians and students as well as to help the violin culture as much as I can. Thank you all so much to those of you that always pull for me and tell me that my music brightens your day. I thought about kicking back and taking it easy on and off for the last 20 years. A matter of fact, my move out to San Diego in 1998 was to do just that - kick back at my new avocado grove. But alas, I had too many ideas in the ol noggin for you, so here I am in the rat race. Your energy and beautiful messages on facebook and online helped me to make it all for you again and again. I got a call from Jon Cooper today from Maine and he is willing to hand deliver my repaired violin to NYC next week and the make last minute adjustments to the violin for me. He said the bass bar went in perfectly. I am lucky to be in the position I am and to have this talent. I know that and I have never taken it for granted. Sean knows. And so does Jon. Heres to the future of our violin culture. And tonight I have now added Book IV to it. markoconnorblog.blogspot/2013/05/its-time-to-re-invent-string-pedagogy.html
