It was an awesome day on Stellwagen today-6 humpbacks and a few minkes! Aside from Northstar and Hippocampus ( who have been in the area for the past couple of days) we also got some nice looks at some old friends Alphorn and Scratch. They were all busy feeding on what looks like mackerel-our fish finder showed the seas were thick with bait! What I find interesting is that on Stellwagen the whales normally feed on sand eels and often time will blow spectacular bubble clouds and bubble rings to corral the fish. The bubble rings we saw today were more delicate (for lack of a better term) than we see when feeding on sand eels? Different strategies for different prey perhaps??
