It was an exciting day at work! (For those of you who don’t know, I work at Denver International Airport.) The sirens and tornado warnings started blaring at around 2:15pm. I happened to be at the terminal, Level 6, near the Southwest Airlines ticket counters at the time. There were hundreds of people in line waiting to get their boarding passes or check their bags. These folks, along with the additional hundreds on Level 5 waiting to go through security or to pick up their bags, were herded down several flights of stairs to “the tunnels” of Level 3, two levels below ground. That’s where the baggage handling gets done. While we were down there three small tornados touched down around the airport (so I was told) and a potential major disaster formed, but didn’t quite drop, immediately over our heads. I shudder to think what would have happened if that thing had actually dropped. Below are some pictures and a video (of the event that I found on the internet. We live about ten miles from there and the tornado warning included our neighborhood. Flights in and out were cancelled during the event, of course. It is now 10:47pm, and they are probably still playing catch-up out there and at other airports around the country. Some video: youtube/watch?v=dQJEoxn5p-w&feature=player_embedded Pictures: As seen from Concourse A; Over one of the towers; Concourse C, empty; underground; As seen from Green Valley Ranch, where we live.
