It was an extremely low key night of marching with a group that was far outnumbered by NYPD. Even so, we walked for miles. When we got to the Lower East Side people were chanting from their windows. The crowd on the ground responded with Join us! Join us! Join us! I watched as an officer went to block the door to the apartment of the supporters. What are you going to do? I yelled. Im not surprised he had nothing to say. To contrast, however, please watch this beautiful moment between Police Captain Ray Lewis and a protester. The retired captain stood with a sign that said, Police: Try Kindness. Before I started filming, the emotional protester praised his courage and thanked him for risking whatever backlash he may encounter. Yes. We need more of this. Not all cops are bad. No, no, no. Of course not. But this is the time for those who believe change is necessary to stand up, and speak out. To be silent is to condone these actions. Its not enough to just be good. Peace, always, until next time. #EricGarner #shutitdown #nojusticenopeace
