It was during my freshman year of high school that I knew I would one day run for office. My Civics teacher Ms. Helen Payne inspired me so much and it was because of her that I decided to run for Student Council which led to my being a student leader at the University of Arkansas and eventually a U.S. Government teacher at Anacostia High School. Although I have known for some time that I would one day run for office, I didnt know how, when or where. I simply knew wanted to be a leader and voice for the voiceless. Well, the day has finally come. It is with much exciting I announce my candidacy for ANC 8A06 in Washington, DC. If elected, I will have the opportunity to help a community that once led the country in unemployment and whose schools are some of the most underperforming in the nation. Although a part of me will always be in my hometown of Plumerville, Arkansas, I truly believe it’s my calling to serve in a community I now call home - Ward 8. It’s where I live and where I served as an educator and the founder of Dream Girls DMV alongside my twin sister and biggest support Trina Fletcher . To learn more about my race, visit tinafletcherdc.
