It was fantastic to spend some time with USDAW members and employees from Neath Morrisons this afternoon in an effort to promote their Freedom from Fear campaign. It calls for an end to violence, threats and abuse towards staff in the run-up to Christmas and in the long term. They are only doing their job and shouldn’t have to worry about abuse, threats or violence. Shop workers are there to assist us and we should respect them. It can be stressful shopping in the run up to Christmas but abuse and threats are not accepted in any other workplace and it shouldn’t be tolerated here either. The Freedom From Fear campaign week is highlighting the year round campaign run by USDAW to protect their workers which has called for legislation to be introduced to give shop workers greater protection.
