It was good too see on CNN that Senator Rand Paul (R) is teaming up with Senator Cory Booker (D) to try and introduce legislation (the Redeem Act) to change the criminal justice system so that non-violent offenders can come back into society and get jobs. Why for example should someone who was a low level drug offender during his teens be denied getting a job for the rest of his life? This legislation is a good idea because at the moment there seems to be more emphasis on punishment which I think in some situations is harsh and draconian. It shows that bi-partisan cooperation between Democrats and Republicans is possible, and I wish there could be more of this.
