It was great for Stockton South to host Labour’s regional manifesto event at Stockton Riverside College today. Labour members from across the North East and Cumbria were joined by Vernon Coaker, Shadow Defence Secretary, and Helen Goodman, Shadow Minister for Welfare Reform, to debate our policy programme. Helen said she had the best ministerial brief as the person who will be responsible for scrapping the bedroom tax, a cruel policy hitting many local families. She also talked about the economic strengths of our region and the unique challenges we face. Vernon spoke very passionately about the importance of this year’s general election and what is at stake if the Conservatives get another 5 years in power. We had some really good conversations in smaller groups about the big issues facing Britain and the North East and Labour’s policies to tackle them. After the event we took Labour’s message to the streets of Thornaby, joined by Helen and Vernon. The response was really positive and people were pleased to see us out engaging. Over the coming week I will be publishing our policies and what they mean for Stockton South residents on my website.
