It was great to see you last night. For those of you who couldnt attend, you were missed. I just wanted to share my opening remarks. Thanks for taking the time to read. Have a great weekend. Sandy First, I would like to thank the Plumsted Business Merchants Association for hosting this event tonight. My name is Sandy Soles. My family and I moved to Plumsted in 1998. It is hard to believe that we have been here 16 years. When we moved here our school district was only one school serving students K-8 at what now is the Dr. Gerald H. Woehr Elementary School. As a community member, I have watched Plumsted grow by leaps and bounds and welcomed and supported wholeheartedly the opening of our other 3 three schools because of the dedication and tireless commitment of past Administrators, Staff, Board of Education Members and a vested community. I have had the honor and privilege to serve this community, the students and parents of New Egypt for 6 years as a Board of Education Member. Tonight, I ask you to support me for another 3 years. I began my career in Education in 1989 in North Brunswick, NJ as the districts first Bilingual Teacher and commenced their bilingual program as a new 1989 college graduate. I then moved to The Trenton School district in 1991 prior to getting married and to this day continue making a difference in my students lives there. I am proud to have had a positive impact in the lives of hundreds of students over my 25 years in education. It is a feeling that is indescribable. So, as you can see education is my lifelong calling. It is our countrys future. I bring an abundance of past and current knowledge to the table as I member of the board. I have served on the Policy, Personnel and Curriculum Committees along side other dedicated board of education members. My job is education. I am entrusted daily to prepare students for the future in a forever changing and revolving educational system which today relies heavily on data driven lessons, the infusion of technology in the classroom, constant assessments and college and career readiness skills. I understand and apply in my own classroom daily these practices. It is no easy task! I appreciate and understand the constant hours of preparation, reading, grading and professional development which teachers take on year after year. I bring my professional expertise to moving our school district forward by supporting and reviewing new academic policies, initiatives and programs to our schools. I believe in the Plumsted Schools. Success lies in our alumni. I am proud to say that both my daughters, Kayla (Class of 2011) and Jamie (Class of 2014) have blossomed academically, athletically and socially here in New Egypt. The memories they have of attending school here will remain with them forever. They both are attending Division One Schools, Kayla at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and Jamie at The University of Hartford in Connecticut on Scholarships because of their successes in our classrooms and on the softball field. Plumsted Schools prepared them to meet the challenges ahead and I am so grateful to the wonderful and dedicated teachers, administrators and coaches who believed in my girls. I am happy to say that my husband, Dave and I have decided to entrust our son, Matthew to our school district as well. He will be attending New Egypt High School next year as a freshman and a member of the Class of 2019. Not only do I believe in our schools but most importantly I believe and support our students. Educational success is a partnership between parents and schools. Neither of them can stand alone and prosper. Together success is limitless. I look forward to hearing many more success stories of other alumni. I am a communicator. I believe in transparency and open communication. I also believe that without communication progress falters. I welcome public comments during board meetings, emails and conversations with community members about our school district. After all, I respect and represent you. I am your voice and without your involvement progress falters as well. I value honesty and trust. I believe the two go hand in hand. I will be truthful which at times not the easiest or popular way to go is but it is imperative to continue moving our district forward. I have always lead and thought with my heart first. I take no decision lightly when it comes to the education of your or my children. The question I always ask myself first is How will this benefit our students? I am not afraid to be the sole NO vote. My votes are all made in the best interest of our students while being fiscally responsible to the taxpayers. There needs to be a balance between student achievement, student success and cost. I wear many hats. I am a daughter, a sister, a wife, a friend, a neighbor, a teacher, a board member but most importantly I am a parent, a mom, who wants the very best for my kids which I know you do as well. If re-elected I will continue to wear all of these hats and make the best decisions I can for all our students. In closing, I thank you, the community for taking the time to attend tonight. I hope that I have earned your trust the past 6 years and that you will allow me to serve another term. It would be a great honor to continue to serve this community of Plumsted.
