It was in 2003 while here in London and sitting in my living room I said to my wife that I would love to facilitate a process that get Jamaicans speaking and communicating internationally and at home in order to find solutions for issues back home. This was on the back drop of many articles that I wrote to the Gleaner and Jamaica Observer with my views which normally attract attentions and spark discussions due to the controversial nature at times. I always yearned for those views be harnessed and compiled in creating solutions. Most times these letters would attain the status of letter of the day to the point of coming to Jamaica one year to collect the Silver Pen Award from the Gleaner Company. Hence the formation of Facilitators For a Better Jamaica (FFBJ) with our key words being “ in being an effective voice with a mandate to speak up for Jamaica and Jamaicans interest in the United Kingdom and internationally, thereby bridging the gap and creating strategic partnerships with Jamaicans overseas and at home.” that is why our first email address was and is [email protected] I am writing this because of late there have been very sad and concerning posts about the tragic demise of Mario Deane and as well the killing in the USA of Michael Brown and many others and issues that we highlight that do make uncomfortable readings. We aim and the vision I have for FFBJ is not to push issues under the carpet as they pile up and make walking uncomfortable or bury our heads in the sand or one will suffocate and be of no use. It is important that members be reminded that FFBJ was not created to be a “feel good group” and at the same time not the group where any and every issue is also pushed or highlighted. We aim not to be the answer but we aim ultimately be a part of the solution for a better Jamaica. #Mytributetomariodeane
