It was in last December when I wrote an article for you and you were laughing. You had told me that you were not afraid to be arrested or even die for the freedom of your country. But when you decided to be engaged with Rama, many things changed. You continued to fight with the same passion but you wanted to come back to her after each fight. She was a beautiful fighter whose passion for freedom touched you deeply and you bonded your lives; and when I came to meet you a few months ago, you told me about the son you expected before the end of the year. I was informed in panic the abduction of the young journalist Hazem Dakel, who had been working on the countryside of Idlip, but for me it was the abduction of my friend, my hero… Those bastards that decided to burn down the whole country have targeted its brilliant youth. But the spark that was lit 2,5 years ago became a fire and nothing will change that. We are waiting for you… My friend and activist, journalist Hazem Dakel: Every person has his/her own story and that is what it makes it unique. 26-year old- Hazem set off from the province of Idlip 6 years ago to find what we call ‘a better life’. From Idlip went to Turkey and reached Greece through the river Evros by a boat among other people. He ended up in Crete where he lived for 6 years with both good and bad times. The strict Greek law did not offer him the chance to get his legal papers and have an identity as much as he tried for this. From the beginning of the revolution, Hazem had been in the side of Syrian people trying to be a link between Greece and Syria. He had been a passionate activist informing people about the condition in Syria, participating in protests and organizing ‘caravans of solidarity’. But when the situation went out of control and Assad was not willing to leave, Hazem decided to put his personal safety aside and return to Syria to fight until the end for the greatest dream as he used to say: a free Syria. Since March, Hazem has been between Turkey and Syria organizing a campaign called “From our hearts” in order to support the vulnerable population by gathering medicine, food and other necessary items and by recording true stories. These stories are the stories of a whole nation and Hazem had been spreading them daily. Hazem has been missing since 14/09/13 and according to information he had been abducted in Idlip countryside.
