It was just a couple months ago, Dat Dang and I were flipping through Netflix to try to find a movie to watch. We ended up on Taps. The movie came out back in 1981 and starred George C. Scott (Patton), and actors just starting out like Tom Cruise and Sean Penn. We agreed to give it a shot. What we watched was a movie that tells the story of how a group of Cadets band together to take over their academy and defend it in order to save it from getting shut down. Dang and I joked back and forth about who that we knew would be who in the movie, and what we would do if we were in their situation. Well now in real life, my own ROTC program at UWL is sadly being closed. Eagle Battalion has been a place that has changed my life, a place where I made friends I will never forget, a place where so many opportunities were given to me, and a place that has made me who I am today. A part of me wants to rise up like those Cadets in the movie to save our program, but I know it is not the right thing to do. Eagle Battalion will stay alive now in the memories of those officers that it has produced and also those Cadets that soon, WILL become the next best batch of Army officers. Eagles lead the way!
