It was just for one night that I stayed at the Terra Nova. Yet, I dont believe I am making a snap judgment on what turned out to be a less than fulfilling experience: The hotel is well appointed with everything one expects from a higher end hotel - secure surroundings, clean, and well painted hallways, etc. The staff is courteous to a fault. So, ones expectations starts to rise. Then you attempt to switch channels on the flat-screen TV, nicely mounted on the wall, only to find there is only one channel - cartoon. After endless flicking, and experimentations I gave up. The real challenge was the next morning: I like an early cup of coffee. Which, only I can make for myself. Being the clean freak that I am, I started to examine the coffee pot carefully. It had some crusty, calcium looking deposits lining the black lid common in electric coffee makers. What is more, this residue looked like it has been there for some time. In other words, the coffee pot was not cleaned with any details. Of course, I was put off completely by this. So, I had to head downstairs to get a cup of coffee. Not what I expected for the money. Later that morning I stopped at the front desk, asked to borrow a pen to make a quick note, but was told there were no pens, or paper. Is this normally the case? I suspect not; however, it was again not what I expected. I asked for a newspaper, while having breakfast... still waiting for it to arrive. The hotel looks immaculate, the staff is courteous, and the food is good. But, they dont seem to pay attention to minute details. I wonder why?
