“It was like being in a bizarre kindergarten ... in a place that wasn’t merely on another world... but was simultaneously extant on a collection of extremely advanced worlds. It was a second infancy, a second ‘re-exposure’ to human culture from vastly intelligent positions beyond it. I do not think that what happened to me was necessarily due to something special about me; rather, I suspect that in any culture that was reasonably organic and humane, this process would be common.
