It was more than six decades ago around the stroke of midnight - TopicsExpress

It was more than six decades ago around the stroke of midnight every person in India began to breathe the air of freedom. This was brought upon by the sacrifice of thousands of lives and those who strongly believed that they must do something for this great nation and its future generations. We have achieved independence from the British and reached so far but there is a big question, have we achieved freedom yet? By freedom, we mean in simple democratic terms, the power to express our views and opinions freely against the system, the government, our leaders and to bring a change in the way we are progressing. But is all that really happening? If that is not happening then how do we justify the word ‘freedom’. What we as citizens are doing to bring about that change. Over the years, India has grown to be a developing nation and is striving to be part of the super power race. From a global point of view it is indeed a proud thing but from a common man’s point of view the real cracks are visible due to the huge corruption, the scams, the hippocrisy and the rising inflation. If a government cannot provide basic amenities like roads, water, food and current properly then where do we stand as a successful nation. The power of voting is totally dependent on money and muscle power today. It is not to say India is heading towards a doom but a lot rests on the generation of today to pull up their sleeves and be aware of their duties towards the nation and the responsibility towards the society as a citizen. A little effort from them can bring a huge difference. What it takes is the initiative and the will to do something. Once that effort is made then we can talk about celebrating a true independence day.
