It was morning and I was grappling with a difficult problem ; how to make a few lines of misbehaving code to work for me in text mining. Suddenly there is a huge commotion out side my house, my wife and daughter ran out to see what is the raucous crowd doing in a quiet neighborhood. A whole lot of PGP students are singing happy birth day and knocking on the door of my neighbor Prof. Mathew Francis. He came out greeted them and all went in following the pied piper. My wife came back and snubbed me You are also teaching for the last twenty years, so far no body has tuned up on your door step to greet you on your birth day. What is this about Prof. Mathew that make the students go gaga over him? Stung by her comments, I retorted (years of married life makes one good at retorts and ripostes) It is because he is their placement Chairperson But envy aside, I know he is their most beloved teacher. We are mere instructors, but Prof. Mathew is the one who finds a place in their minds. A very happy birth day to a very loving friend and colleague and a very capable (though misguided) academic :) Update : It is 23.16, the stream of students still continues . Another 45 minutes left :)
