It was nerve-wracking...a new learning experience...but fun in the end. Our 4th grade son DJ was eliminated early in the 2015 Santa Fe County Spelling Bee. He nailed his first word (Ammunition)...but then tripped up in the next round (Whirlpool--a word he knows....but nerves got the best of him). He was SO nervous--when we arrived, I think he kinda got psyched out when we found out there were Middle-Schoolers in it--some of them were taller than me! But we couldnt be more proud of him. He had to step up to a microphone...in front of five judges and a packed room at the Santa Fe Community College. He was pissed afterwards--which is good. I went Star Wars/Darth Sidious on him...and told him to Channel that Anger..Channel that Rage for next year! BTW--an 8th grader took first (parents are from India--he goes to my daughters school)...and a THIRD GRADER took 2nd! (also Indian-American).
