It was on an early morning of the 15th of September 1979, when my eldest child Ryan was born . And since it was our first, we can not contain the joy and the excitement seeing him for the first time. While I was on labor my husband chased one of the best native chicken we had at home and turned it into a delicious tinola so that by the time I am through with the pain, I can fill my empty stomach with the delicious treat. Upon delivery, my husband who believed in the practice of long ago, made me wear an apparel , which when worn, made me look like a Nun who had lost her convent. He didnt want me to catch too much air nor drink any cold beverage for fear that the milk in my breast will get dry . For two days I had forego my bath since my Mom told me so and in the 3rd day I was smelling like a dead rat and when at last I was allowed to take a bath , it was supervised by my husband - with a lukewarm water full of different herbs and I feel like I am made into a tinilmok and with my smell after I was through with my bath, you will really believe that I was a tinilmok after all. ha ha ha. Raising your first child was like, learning how to write and read your ABCs. On your first days, you will have to listen to suggestions from experienced mothers. Your only weapon was your guts and your love for your precious infant. It was hard at first, you have to contend with sleepless nights, when your child wailed non-stop , you feel like crying too. But when you see your child smile while you cuddled him in your arms, your nine months sacrificed of having him in your womb and the many trials and difficulties that comes with rearing a child, are all forgotten .Seeing your child walk for the first time made your heart sings with joy and happiness and it seems that you can not ask for more. Days passed by swiftly and suddenly the child that I used to cuddle in my arms grow into a fine young man.The dreams that we used to share then, was now his own dream , what was left of us was his happy childhood and his yearly visit and the love that he have for us. He is Kuya to everyone to his siblings friends and even to our neighbors. Kuya go on and find your star, this time with Jane and Liv. We will always be here for you. We love you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and this is my story of LOVE for my first born child and I hope you enjoy reading this... thank you. (LOL)
