It was on this day in 1970, Jimi Hendrix was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Mary Abbots Hospital in London at the age of 27. The post-mortem examination concluded that Hendrix aspirated his own vomit and died of asphyxia while intoxicated with barbiturates. In the days before his death, Hendrix had been in poor health, due in part to fatigue caused by overworking, a chronic lack of sleep, and an illness assumed to be flu related. Rumors and conspiracy theories abound about Jimi’s death. Eric Burdon claimed Jimi had committed suicide, but that’s contradicted by reports that he was in a good frame of mind. In 2009, a former Animals roadie published a book claiming that Jimi’s manager had admitted to him that he arranged the murder of Hendrix. A permanent museum has been created in a London attic at 23 Brook Street, Mayfair London. The space is where rock music pilgrims have been pleading to get into for decades. They are the rooms rented in the late 1960s by Jimi, poignantly described by him as the only home I ever had. In 1997, Over 2000 fans watched Pete Townshend unveil a English Heritage Blue Plaque, to mark where Jimi had lived in 1968-69. Hendrix was the first “pop star” to be awarded with the plaque. On the wall next door is a similar plaque dedicated to Frideric Handel. Jimi left the message I need help bad man, on his managers answer phone earlier that night. https://youtube/watch?v=dp42JpL08Jg
