It was over 100 degrees today as we filmed at the ruins of Laodicea and Heiropolis. Paul likely visited both sites but only mentions them briefly in Colossians. Laodicea is best known for the letter addressed to the Christians there in Revelation, as Christ rebukes them as lukewarm and neither hot nor cold. They were wealthy Christians yet spiritually impoverished. The hot springs and cold snowmelt-fed streams nearby provided the imagery for John to use. And nearby were the lukewarm waters of Heiropolis which, with their mineral content, have formed amazing white calcite deposits that can be seen from Laodicea. Heres a few pics, the first two from Laodicea (notice the white calcite in the distance behind the columns - that is Heiropolis. The next three pics are from Pammukele, Turkey and the ruins of Heiropolis. I just posted on my blog an excerpt from Making Sense of the Bible entitled, Who Really Wrote Pauls Letters. It can be read here: adamhamilton.org. Tomorrow were spending the day filming in Ephesus.
