It was quite the Monday morning for Sioux City with a very quick but very strong thunderstorm that moved through the metro between 9-10AM dropping over a half inch of rain in that that time. Tuesday could start off similar to Monday with showers and storms more than likely, especially across northeast Nebraska. Temperatures will cool through mid-week and we should dry out as well. Showers and thunderstorms will be likely this morning across western Siouxland, and some of the storms could be on the strong side with gusty winds, heavy rain and even small hail. Temperatures this morning even with the rain showers will stay just about average sitting in the 60s. We should get a small break in the action in the late morning and early afternoon where we could even some sunshine which will help temperatures climb into the mid 80s most likely. The reprieve from the rain will be short lived as a cold front will sweep through by mid-afternoon and we could start to see new storms being initiated by 3PM. The afternoon storms will have the potential to come become severe today with strong winds and possible hail, and of course stay tuned to Channel 9 for all weather updates today. Tonight a few lingering showers could last until about midnight at the latest before we start to really clear things out. Lows tonight dip into the low 60s. Tomorrow will be cool, calm and dry on the backside of the departing cold front. Highs tomorrow only reach into the upper 70s even with plenty of sunshine. The second half of the work week will be nice with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies both Thursday and Friday with highs staying on the lower side topping out only in the upper 70s and low 80s.
