It was really interesting to witness the events in France via social media. Within moments, people immediately reacted. Whether it was by way of changing a profile pic or publicly denouncing the terrorist acts, the need to sound off (FOMO) was immediate as people wanted to be part of the trending and viral. These kinds of events only serve to further polarize existing divides. Besides buzzwords like (satire, censorship, freedom) it was hard to find an original thought or different perspective. People are so eager to give in to the frenzy of speaking, that theyre not allowing for quiet contemplation, the absorbing of what youve just witnessed, running it through your own set of beliefs and questioning what you see past the surface. There is a whole middle or gray or moderate that shies away from sounding off about these hot button topics. Its not to say that these people dont make everyday consistent efforts in waging their own war for securing the freedom of thought for the generations to come. The problem is that nobody wants to be ordinary. It doesnt sell newspapers or feed the 24 hour cycle. Meanwhile, as victims families make funeral arrangements and wrongdoers are apprehended, the attention span begins to dwindle as our voracious appetites for human emotion must once again be quenched by the ordinary and mundane. Till next time...
