It was snowing so hard at the sanctuary today, but I braved the roads (a hundred miles of them) and took Rowdy the 10 yr old Maltese to meet Gloria, a new Silver Whiskers Program client in Palisades, CO. Rowdy was taken to the MCAS shelter by family when his owner passed. They contacted BCAS because they thought he would be perfect for the program. Debbie Hughes, who was the first to volunteer for the new Silver Whiskers Program Animal Advocate in the Grand Junction area, met me at the assisted living facility Gloria lives in. Glorias son contacted me because hed heard about our program, and his mom so needed a companion. Someone gave Gloria a young Jack Russell Terrier who was more than she could handle. In fact he pulled so much when walking on the ice that she fell to the cement so hard she became unconscious and hospitalized. Needless to say the dog was returned. Rowdy weighs a mere 8 lbs, and Gloria could hardly tell he was on the end of the leash. Rowdy was so excited to meet new people. We were immediately greeted by residents in wheelchairs upon arrival. Rowdy LOVED everyone! Debbie, will check with Gloria periodically to see how things are going and to see if theres anything they need. In the case of this client, she is financially able to take care of Rowdys needs, but Debbie will be there should an emergency arise. Debbie owns Always Loving Pet Care which gives her awesome credentials for this volunteer position. Thank you Debbie!!!!!
