It was the first flower we picked for our Mothers. The first flower we spread the seeds of and the first flower you made a wish to. Dandelions! The Greek name is Taraxacum from the greek word taraxos (disorder) and akos (remedy). So disorder remedy! I guess that makes sence cuz the white sap of dandelions is used to cure warts and prevents urinary tract infections. Dandelion has more potassium then any other plant, cleans the blood, lowers bad cholesterol while raising good cholesterol, lowers blood pressure and normalizes blood sugar levels, increases urine, helps the body get rid of too much fluid, stimulates the appetite, liver, spleen, pancreas and gallbladder. Helps with kidney disease, swelling, skin problems, heartburn, upset stomach, appendicitis, breast problems like swelling and loss of milk flow, fever, boils, eye problems, diabetes and diarrhea. And you can eat the whole plant, and safe for children. Dandilons are good. Funny, no real scientific studies have been done on dandelions. Such a funny flower, birds love the seeds, pigs eat it all, goats eat it once in a while, and sheep and cows dont like it and horses refuse to touch it. The leaves are good in salads, soups, sandwiches, pasta, anything, tea. The root dry and make coffee. Pickle the stems and make wine from the flowers. Dandelions are good for fermenting. And the flower works as an amazing barometer, it flowers at 8 and closes at 5, before it rains it closes and it will only open when it wont rain anymore and if the dandeline thinks it might rain again, it wont open. Dandelions.
