It was two short years ago that I underwent heart surgery. I was in the hospital for many many months while the Doctors tried to figure out what was wrong. While they couldnt figure out multiple facets of the things that went wrong, a miracle happened with my doctor, new technology and the FDA. I was able to finally get the heart surgery I needed. While it was still a high risk surgery, I had no choice but to move forward. Either way my life would be changed one way or another. I honestly thought I wouldnt make it. The chances were against me but despite that, the best Dr. in the world did what many others wouldnt or couldnt do. He saved my life. Without his team and his knowledge and connections I would not be here today. But I was not alone through this ordeal. At my lowest point in my life, so many others gave to help me through the many sleepless and worrisome nights. I have so many to thank but I first have to thank my Mom and Dad. They spent time and money they didnt have to fly to Texas and be by my side. I know it wasnt easy for them. I also have to thank Don King and the amazing company called Electronic Arts. Don is the most compassionate and amazing leader I have had the privilege to work for. He never gave up on me and helped me become a better leader and person. I can never repay him for the opportunities he gave me and I will be forever in his debt. EA took care of me while I was in the hospital. Knowing a company cared so much for an employee still amazes me today. I love games and gaming and #EA, you are top notch. I know this was a difficult time for my wife, Delanie Rodriquez. She endured through it all and helped me cope with my time in the hospital. It wasnt easy for her and I am thankful she was able to be there for me while still trying to live life to its fullest not knowing what the final outcome would be. I of course couldnt have survived without my snowbeast Bumble Stokes. Snowy helped me laugh and keep my sanity. I am grateful for all of my family, friends and all those who helped during this time. I look back and so many people did so many things to help. From the care packages to the games it was amazing. I am also grateful to my kids who never gave up on me as well. Tyler Stokes, Park and Bell, you are amazing and I love you all forever and ever. Thank you Dr. Coselli and Dr. Diaz. You and St. Lukes hospital helped me live and forever changed my life. Last of all at this time of year, I thank God who never left my side and gave me insights into people I never thought possible. I better understand the human spirit and what others go through. I am grateful for the experience. While the future has yet to be written, I can say thank you to all of you who have made me a better person and took care of me when I was unable to take care of myself. I am amazed that I am still among the living. Heres to another year. R
