It will be interesting to see how the spin-doctors guide Pauline Marois through the Quebec election. Separatism in Quebec has to walk a fine line between nationalism and keeping its American customers. There is a limit as to how much the rest of North America will take. Still to appease her non-Anglo electorate, she has to present herself as the fearless guardian of Quebec rights, threatened by a sea of Anglais battering down the gates of New France. Its all politics and sabre-rattling for the public eye, and all economics in the back rooms. Quebec is not threatened by assimilation or threats of dominance by the cruel and perfidious Anglos. This kind of thing is what buys votes down amongst the rabble and the intellectuals. What Quebec needs is good, responsible government. We could all use a bit of that.
