It works ! Remember the Barrel of Fun that we retrieved from Asbury Park, NJ? It came from The Palace in Asbury Park, but had been left to sit outside in the weather...New Jersey weather...for 9 years until we snatched it. The Barrel of Fun isnt from Idora Park, but it is Idora-Like! So, I just had to have it! A friend of ours, Larry Cadman, saw our photos and called us up...he wanted to volunteer to get the motor and gearbox up and running - his contribution to The Idora Park Experience! Pretty awesome Larry! Larry is an electrical genius. Rumor has it that Larry built an Iron Man-type suit before Tony Stark made his. Thats what I heard, anyway...! Yep. So, The electric motor and gearbox were found to be seized (they wouldnt move). The electric motor was beyond help, so we held a ceremony and Larry pronounced it DOA. The gearbox was rusted and full of water. The bearings were corroded and seized. Undeterred, Larry dismantled the gearbox... bead blasted away the rust, lubed the bearings, and reassembled the gearbox unit. Larry then found a brand new replacement bolt-up electric motor on the internet... The motor was located in Pennsylvania... for under $80! We jumped in my truck, headed to PA, grabbed the motor, and headed home... Larry put in a lot of his personal time to get this thing to work. This video is the motor and gearbox in operation! Thank you Larry! I cant adequately convey my appreciation for what youve done for The Idora Park Experience in support of our efforts to keep the memory of Idora Park alive. I still need to get the Barrel of Fun back together, of course. But Larry...seriously, Michigan Blue & Maize paint...?
