It would be interesting to see if the national voter turnout was affected by this. It would need to be treated like a holiday, like Christmas or Thanksgiving, where almost everything is closed the entire day. This way our service industry folks will also be given the chance to participate. While we have vote by mail in Oregon this is not the norm for the country. Adding more voters when many voters already face many hour wait times and long lines doesnt fix the problem in many states where legislatures are making it harder for their citizens to vote by closing early voting times and adding unnecessary restrictive ID laws.
