It would be interesting what someone like Ted Cruz would make of Jesus who he is fond of referring to. Despite that politicians always mention Jesus when they are lying to you, one does have wonder how people like Cruz would actually respond to the founder of their revered religion. While Obamacare helps people pay for health care, Jesus did it for free, thereby promoting what Republicans would likely regard as a culture of dependency, running counter to individual initiative. In Brothers Karamazov, Dostoyevsky has his Grand Inquisitor essentially say that the values of Christ pose a threat to the institution of Christianity and were he to encounter Jesus would have to be killed. I kind of thought sentiments like this were only the sort to be found in Russian novels, little would I imagine that they would be expressed by a senator from Texas in the 21st century. What is sad is that people like Ted Cruz are so hopelessly ignorant that they can barely understand the point of Green Eggs and Ham, much less the embodiment of evil in a Russian novel and his similar outlook on life.
