Italy Scott #1886c (22 May 1992) Recall of Columbus (Richiamo di Colombo): based on the painting by American artist Augustus G. Heaton. This oil on canvas is presently located on a corridor wall of the U.S. Capitol, Washington, D.C. Immediately after the victory at Grenada with the surrender of Boabdil (1492), Columbus asked the Catholic Kings excessive demands for his enterprise. They refused. He left and was about four miles out of Santa Fé when he was recalled by the Queen and his demands met by the Capitulations of Santa Fé. The stamp is tied to card with “Columbus” pictorial First Day Cover cancellation 22 May 1992 Genoa, Italy.
