A Senate committee majority had voted Friday to strip former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of his seat due to his conviction for tax fraud, paving the way for a vote by the full Senate expected by mid-October. The Italian Senate committee has voted to expel former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi from parliament, after Berlusconi`s first definitive conviction for tax fraud, which the Italian Supreme Court upheld on August 1. The vote is Berlusconi’s second setback of the week, after his failed attempt to bring down the country’s fragile coalition government. The former premier had pushed his five ministers to resign from Letta`s cabinet, declaring an end to the government and asking for early elections. By mid-October, Mr. Berlusconi will have to decide whether to serve his one-year prison term under house arrest or carry out community service, following his definitive conviction in August. #egyptyard
