Itama po natin! By: Ben Lou Q: I would like to start working part time and just take care of my child and husband the rest of the time, but it almost seems impossible. My husband and I are still trying to pay off $25K of debts from credit cards for our wedding but it seems like forever. Can you help us? A: Here are some questions you must consider before quitting your job or asking for part time hours. Can your husband hold two jobs without killing himself or getting burned out? Do you really want him to shoulder all the finances of the family? Do you feel that it is fair to have him work to pay off all the debts? And last, what are your future plans for your family? Consider these questions and then think really hard of these consequences. Being newly married and having a child immediately puts a heavy financial strain on your family. It would have been better to have a small wedding rather than having a big one if you were going to use both your credit cards to pay for it. Imagine the number of people that you had to entertain and feed for one night, but it’s too late to worry about that. Since you still have debts from the wedding it will probably take both you and your husband working full time to pay it off. If you are planning to just make the minimum payments because you are a one and a half income family, then it will really take forever to pay them off. Also, expenses tend to go up when you are not at work because you are able to go out more freely. Then you must start planning about purchasing a home and again it becomes very difficult for a one and half income family these days. If you would like to be done with these credit cards from your wedding sooner than later, I have programs that can help you pay it off sooner and with less payment per month. We have an array of programs to help clients be done with their unsecured debts. Ben Lou at your service! I have 29 years of real financial experience.
