Items scheduled for the Monday, October 6, 2014, Barton County Commission meeting: APPROVAL OF APPROPRIATIONS – An Accounts Payable Register will be submitted for the period of September 22, 2014, and ending October 6, 2014. It is anticipated that the Commission will review and approve expenditures for the last two week period. NEW BUSINESS GOLDEN BELT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION: Kansas Built Environment and Outdoors Summit – Sue Cooper, Program Officer, Golden Belt Community Foundation, has been asked to provide an overview of the Built Environment and Outdoors Summit. Information only. No action is expected. BOARD APPOINTMENTS: Memorial Parks Advisory Committee – The Memorial Park Advisory Committee is charged with advising and assisting the Commission regarding the care and maintenance of the Barton County Memorial Parks and Cemetery. It is anticipated that the Commission will consider reappointing Paige Loftland. MEMORIAL PARKS ADVISORY COMMITTEE: Presentation of a Memory Book – Ms. Loftland has created a Memory Book that covers the Golden Belt Veterans’ Memorial Project from inception to dedication. She has asked for time to present the book. Information only. No action is expected. RESOLUTION 2014-16: Regulations for Barton County Owned and Operated Memorial Parks and Cemetery and Rescinding Resolution 2014-08, Resolution for Barton County Owned and Operated Memorial Parks, Same, Adopted May 5, 2014 – The Memorial Parks Advisory Committee has recommended certain changes to the Regulations – essentially that a veteran and his or her spouse would be limited to two lots only in the Veterans’ Park of Golden Belt. If a veteran was both honorably discharged and had lived in Barton County, he or she should be eligible to receive his or her lot for free. The Commission will consider adopting the Resolution. SOLID WASTE: Revision of Rates – From time to time, Landfill management reviews rates to determine if the cost of disposal is adequate to cover operation and closing costs. It is suggested that “Clean Concrete or Brick” be added at a cost of $15.00 per ton. The Commission will consider approving revised rates. SOLID WASTE: Installation of Electrical Service at Landfill Shop – There is a building at the Landfill where equipment is stored. The 2015 budget allows for enclosing two bays to create an area out of the elements for maintenance and storage. It is suggested that the electrical phase of that project be completed in 2014. Silverado Electric quoted the work, which will include trenching, setting an electrical panel and installing five outlets, at $3,930.13, could be paid from the Solid Waste Budget. The Commission will consider approving the quote. 2014 TAX SALE: Update – The County recently took judgment on the parcels remaining on the 2014 Tax Sale. Owners are able to redeem parcels until 3:30 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2014. The sale will be held in the Courthouse Conference Room at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 14, 2014. At this time, two parcels remain. Kevin Wondra, County Treasurer, will report.
