Its 2am on a Friday night and the girls refuse to sleep. They are very very happily milking the weekend privileges. Me: ok Girls. Enough. Time to sleep. Papa is really tired. Both:AAAAAWWWWWWWW!THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!! No papa... *they writhe in their pajamas hoping to get another few minutes. Me: *mustering stern voice and ready to punish. no dear. Im serious. Time to sleep. Its really very late. *ruien suddenly sits up, runs to a little stool and puts it right next to me. She stands on chair, puts her hands on my hips and says Okay papa. Sit down. Lets talk. I sit down bemused. Ruien: ok listen papa. Me and ruixin want to play. But YOU want us to sleep right now. This is not going to work right? So you and I have to learn to collaborate. What do you think we should do? You see papa. We cannot both get what we want. SO!! *raises finger to air. We must collaborate for a better way!! Me: *really bemused. Ruien. Did you use the word collaborate?!?! *ruien looks at me with a frown and deepens her voice Ruien: no papa. FOCUS. we have a problem here. And we need to find a better way. Me: ha. Yes. And the better way is for you to sleep right now!!! Ruien: AAAAAAAAWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWW!!! No papa. We must COLLABORATE!! Me: sleep. Ruien: collaborate. Me: I dont think you know what collaborate means my dear? Ruien: you are not cooperative papa. On Monday I am telling my teacher that you are NOT cooperative. Me: ok. I will be sure to write that in my resume. Now sleep. Ruien: Humph... *i tuck them in. They close their eyes and silence is finally restored to the world. At 2:26am I finally get to bed. ____________________ At 2:35am I hear my bedroom door open. And little footsteps walk in. Ruien: *stands in front of my face and opens my eyelids with her fingers. papa. Whats a resume? I think we should collaborate. ________________ Does anybody want to adopt a 4 year old collaborator?
