Its Alive! Alive! or more like It will survive! Survive. After cleaning the speed pots and putting my new used Technics SL-23 back together tonight I grabbed the head shell and vintage Empire LTD 400 cart and needle off my broken Pioneer PL100 and it fit on my SL-23. I set the counterweight, tracking force and made an adjustment to the tone arm rest. Went to the basement, grabbed an old RCA tuner with phono amp, hooked up some speakers and the TT and then grabbed a record to test it out. Yes I grabbed Gloria Gaynor I Will Survive. At first for no special reason other than it is a record I wouldnt really care about if it got ruined with a bad setup or needle. Then I was glad I grabbed it because after my rudimentary work with this TT, it will survive the $10 As Is Goodwill shelf and be a nice setup in my house. Even with this old RCA tuner and not so great speakers I can hear a nice sound from this unit. Could be the Empire cart, wondering why I didnt try it on my current setup and was shocked the stylus still works well. Could be the TT, or a combo of each. I cannot wait until tomorrow when I have time to hook it up to my real system.
