Its Banned Books Week and enlightened people in the book industry - TopicsExpress

Its Banned Books Week and enlightened people in the book industry have for years been shining a light on the fact that individuals should be free to choose the books they want to read. This is the same issue Lawrence Ferlinghetti was willing to go to jail for back in 1957 when Howl by Allen Ginsberg (a book Ferlinghetti & City Lights published) was put on trial for obscenity. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) agreed to defend Ferlinghetti and he was acquitted when a very conservative judge named Judge Clayton W. Horn ruled Howl had redeeming social value - a standard we still live with today. Stop by The Beat Museum any day this week and we will give you either a I Read Banned Books bumper sticker or a The Problem with Censorship is... bumper sticker with any purchase. Just say, Im here for the Banned Books!
