Its EXACTELY like that. Almost worst. Bujumbura (The Star) I don’t want to defeat Al-Shabaab. I would rather scatter them to prolong my mission, a soldier serving for the African Union Mission in Somalia who recently returned to Bujumbura, Burundi told the Star, a Kenyan based media. The Burundian soldier whose name has not been identified made a surprise comments after revealing what many Somalis already suspected on how the African Union led mission is doing for the good of Somalis and its peace to return. This Burundian peacekeeper says that he was in Somalia for his own benefit and that Al Shabaab’s destruction was the least of his priorities. Currently, AMISOM has more than 22,000 soldiers from six nations, including the neighboring countries. The Mission’s spokesman Col Ali Aden Houmud from Djibouti says they are in Somalia to liberate the country from the Al Qaeda linked group and then leave Somalia for the Somalis to govern their own country. But the Burundian soldier who served in Somalia as a peacekeeper says he was paid a monthly salary of US$1200 and an extra US$500 allowance to boot and that he earned more than ten Burundian and Somali soldiers each of whose monthly salary is US$50 and US$160 respectively. Thanks for this project! Two years ago, a western media quoted another Burundian peacekeeper who returned from Mogadishu saying that he wished Somalia not to be peaceful enough until he completes his new flat in outside Bujumbura. Somali security analyst Hassan Mohamed says while the African Union project is going on the ground AMISOM officials will not be happy to see a strong Somali army who will be able to take over the security of the country.
