Its Emotional. Its not often I get emotional or at least show emotion outwardly but this weekend has been an exception. As it happens I am on my own because I am house sitting my brothers house while his family have gone away for the weekend so I am free to be emotional in my own company. Anyway. Ive watched on occasion the Paralympics but this weekend Ive watched quite a lot of the Invictus games. For those that dont know its a sporting event organised princeably by a prince, prince Harry who I have a lot respect for. The athletes in these games are ex-armed forces from seventeen countries around the world who have been severely disabled in the line of duty. They have suffered terrible injuries by doing their job in fighting for their countries, for us. Some may say that its their choice and collateral damage must be expected from choosing to do the job. But for me, who accepts that armed forces are necessary and cannot not simply be disbanded, I am humbled that there are those who will do this job in order that I dont have to. With this in mind I cant help watching these people get to grips with their lives and stop myself from welling up almost to the point of tears. Unfortunately armed conflict is a burden that has been been inflicted on the human race. It will be so for a very long time if not for ever as a utopia where warring does not exist is a utopia that might be desirable but will not be achieved. This is another case, whatever you think about that, where again you mustnt shoot the messenger (sic), in this case brave soldiers, for carrying out this work and suffering the tragic consequences of that. It really is quite emotional.
