Its Fiesta time in Coco again! The traditional fiestas kick off with a popular dance where the Queen of the Fiestas will be crowned. More details below. But I want to address an aspect of the Fiestas that many expats are not familiar with. -The local fiestas that take place in about every town in Costa Rica have a major purpose. Its the main source of funds for the coffers of the towns Community Development Association. In Coco this is ADICOCO. With these funds they cover the cost of a variety of projects throughout the year, all in the benefit of the town and its people. So feel good when you come kick up your heels, enjoy a few cold ones, buy from one of their bazaars, eat their food or enjoy the toros (bull riding) or ride yourself or simply attend the tope or horse parade which in Coco has a unique local flavor as it follows a route along the beach. Its all for a good cause. No need to feel guilty for indulging yourself in the fun when you think of it as doing work for your adopted community, lol!
