Its Friday - time for Swing History with Duncan Hemstock! Freeman - The Eel Bud Freeman was an alumni of the famed Chicago located Austin High School Gang that seemingly spent every spare moment practising and listening to jazz. Their incessant work allegedly drove some neighbours to move house. The clarinettist and leader of the group, Frank Teschemacher, was an influence on the young Benny Goodman. One of the great tenor saxophone players of the swing era, Bud was also one of the few tenor players to be accepted into Dixieland bands, famously spending some time in Eddie Condons band. Later in life, he played in the much loved group The Worlds Greatest Jazz Band which, by many accounts, was not bad. youtu.be/-fMj4ktY_Go
