Its #GivingTuesday Want to help the hungry and hurting of Northwest Arkansas? Join in #GivingTuesday and help us feed and help others. This year marks the third year we are participating in #GivingTuesday, a nationwide effort that benefits non-profit organizations. The specially designated day follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. This year #GivingTuesday will take place today, Dec. 2. All donations received will benefit our two largest feeding programs, SnackPacks for Kids and Middle School Mini Meals. SnackPacks for Kids provides a bag filled with 8-10 healthy snacks to children identified by schools as being at-risk for hunger or food insecurity on the weekends. Over 6,500 snackpacks are distributed weekly during the school year to 95 elementary schools and Head Start Centers across four Northwest Arkansas counties at a cost of over $30,000 per month. During the summer snackpacks are distributed through summer school lunch programs, church lunch programs, our cafés and other public venues. Middle School Mini Meals is modeled after SnackPacks for Kids, and is the newest Samaritan Kids program. Mini Meals is a meal-based initiative that ensures reliable access to weekend meals for 400 middle school students living in family situations that consistently do not have enough food at home. This program is a realization of a long-term SCC goal to provide weekend food to at-risk older children who do not have access to SCC snackpacks distributed only to elementary schools.
