Its Halloween Week 2 tonight from 7-9pm on The Golden Age of Radio over WBAI, 99.5 FM and streaming live at wbai.org. We have another classic from SUSPENSE on the third anniversary of the series “The House in Cyprus Canyon” starring Robert Taylor and a great radio cast from CBS on Dec 05, 1946. A detective named Sam (Howard Duff) investigates a manuscript found by a realtor (Hans Conreid) that tells a strange tale of the new occupants of a house with who find a mysterious door that wont open. With Cathy Lewis, Jim Backus, Joseph Kearns (announcer), Paul Frees, Wally Maher, written by Robert L. Richards, William Spier (producer, director), and Ken Niles (commercial spokesman). Left over from last week, well finally hear QUITE PLEASE “Calling All Souls” from October 31, 1948, written by Wyllis Cooper and starring Ernest Chappell. Its a ghost story about a condemned killer who get to talk to his victims before his execution. By request, one of the two radio adaptations of Daphne du Mauriers “The Birds”, ten years before Hitchcock made the story into a movie. If you live in a cave, its about birds going on the attack for no apparent reason, terrorizing a family in the English countryside. We will present the LUX RADIO THEATER version via the AFRS (they called it HOLLYWOOD RADIO THEATER). It was originally presented on CBS on July 20, 1953, with host Don Wilson(!) and starring Herbert Marshall, Betty Lou Gerson, Gloria Gordon, Betty Harford, Herb Butterfield, William Johnstone, Tudor Owen, Ben Wright, and Alastair Duncan. Maybe well hear the ESCAPE version next Saturday on YUSA, if theres a demand for it.
