Its Just Not Fair 1 Samuel 14:43 Then Saul said to - TopicsExpress

Its Just Not Fair 1 Samuel 14:43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that [was] in my hand, [and], lo, I must die. (AMIV) Making mistakes is a part of life. Everybody makes mistakes on a daily basis. But why then are most people so afraid when their mistakes are found out? In the story above, King Saul and his army had been fighting for a long time without any food. The people were weary from the fighting and the marching, but foolishly, he had ordered that no one would eat until they had total victory. And that anyone who disobeyed would be cursed. Well, his son Jonathan, the true hero of the battle, didnt know anything about what had happened, so when he found some honey he ate it. Eventually what he did made its way up to Saul and he had to face the music. How many times have you faced this kind of situation in your life? You were just going about your business, trying to do your best to serve the Lord, and then you discover that you did something wrong. Its exactly at these times that the flesh wants to kick and scream and justify that what happened wasnt fair. That is the natural response right? To cling to our right to be heard. To have others understand what we were going through. To make other understand our hearts. But Jonathan didnt do any of those normal things. Instead he sized the situation up, and confessed, knowing that it would cost him his life. But as he was faithful to confess his wrongdoing, the Lord stepped in and saved Him through the people. 1 Samuel 14:45 And the people said to Saul, Will Jonathan die, who has wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: [as] the LORD [Yahweh] lives, there will not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not. (AMIV) There is power in owning up to your mistakes. Especially when it seems unfair. Jonathan, like Jesus going to the cross, didnt open his mouth to give a hundred reasons why he was not wrong. And because of that, the Lord vindicated him. So the next time that are tempted to make excuses for your mistake, reach down and take courage from the heroes of faith, and follow their examples. And the Lord will always have your back!
