Its National Small Business Week This week marks the 51st annual National Small Business Week (May 12-16) in the U.S. Did you know…? • 120 million people in the U.S. are employed by small businesses • between 2009 and 2011, small businesses were responsible for 67 percent of all new jobs created in the United States • small businesses make up 99.7 percent of all employers in the U.S. and account for 42.9 percent of private-sector payroll • approximately 543,000 new small businesses are founded in the U.S. each month • half of all new businesses started each year survive for five years or more and one-third of those businesses survive for 10 years or more • small businesses are typically very in tune with the latest trends • small businesses in general are responsible for creating about 50 percent of the total gross domestic product (GDP) Celebrate National Small Business Week every week.
