Its Not A Monster Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray - TopicsExpress

Its Not A Monster Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus...Philippians 4:6,7 How much sleep have you lost because a nagging issue kept you tossing and turning, flipping your pillow, pulling the covers up and throwing them off? How many times have you finally gotten out of bed, made the trek down the hall to find a glass, fill it with water, take a sip, and dump the rest down the sink, make your way back to bed to toss and turn, turn and toss over and over again? How many times have you counted the problems and counted the ceiling tiles until the wee hours of the morning because your mind could not slow down? By the time the alarm goes off you feel like a Mack truck has run directly over you and then decided to try it out in reverse as well. How much sleep have you lost because of this most debilitating condition called worry? Its human; we at times assume the weight of yesterday, today, tomorrow and next month only to find that when we stop long enough to examine what we are worrying about its not nearly as significant as it seems to be right now. Its much like the shadows that drive our little ones to our beds begging to sleep with us. After we take their little finger or more likely carry them back to their room, turn on the light, the big scary monster that took sleep from their eyes was nothing more than the tree limbs just outside the window moving in the breeze. Oh how much like children we are. Even though we think we have grown past the days when the shadows on the wall no longer intimidate or frighten us, circumstances dance a frightening minuet on the wall of our minds and all of a sudden midnight becomes treacherous and overwhelming. Everything from finances to relationships to job security to being threatened on our own soil by pure evil can reduce us to a malox addicted insomniac that exists rather than lives. Worry can only survive when we feed it. When obstacles and road blocks and unexpected storms begin to tell you that surrender is the only possibility available at our disposal, its either feed the straw monster that isnt what it seems and give it legitimacy, or see the situation for what it really is; a mere threat from something that does not have the authority to destroy you. Concern yes, worry no. Our heavenly daddy wont let us sleep with him, but he most definitely will carry you back to your room, turn on the light, let you see its ok, pull back the covers and lay down beside you giving you the comfort that is needed to find the rest your weary war torn emotions need. Worry and peace cannot coexist! So before you wrestle all night with the demon of worry, have a conversation with the peace speaker and crawl into the the comfort of the arms of one who will dispatch a sentinel to stand watch over you and help you drift off into His peaceful, sound, restorative rest.
